12 Days of Christmas Day 5

On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me ..... 5 golden rings!

Ok, so I don't have a "true love" per say, but I did get myself these 5 midi rings, which Never have off my fingers. There won't be a day over Christmas that these beauties won't be decorating my fingers.

Rings: Miss Selfridge £10 for 5
They're only very simple and plain, but worn layered and all together, they look amazing!

A Christmas Weekend in the Country

It's that time of year, when the city gets busy, full of people Christmas shopping, pushing and shoving. As I live pretty much next to the Trafford Centre, It is literally a nightmare. It takes about an hour to get out of the road, especially at weekends. It's wayyyyy too much to handle. So I decided to get away for the weekend to The lake District.... my parents fave get away.

It was bloody freezing, but by god it was beautiful. It always takes my breath away in Winter, as all the mountains are coated in pure white icy snow and it just looks beautiful. I used to dread going up to the country when I was younger, as it usually meant hard, intense, tiring hikes up all the peaks, but now I love going to getaway.

Sooooo, we headed for our usual little town of Keswick and it was literally freeeeeezing cold, but bright sunshine... crisp and lovely. I spent the day pretty much looking around all the old charity shops, the Christmas markets and the sweetie shops, as well as scoffing my face with chips, chocolate, mulled wine and cookies. PERFECT DAY!!!

Christmas outing in the Lakes

I also bought an absolute gem from the Oxfam charity shop. The owner gave me a discounted further price (she obviously thought it was a piece of rubbish) but I LOVE it! I cannot wait to wear it over the Christmas period.

12 Days of Christmas

DAY 4:

It's the fourth day of christmas and a Sunday. So what does that mean... onesie day.

I've already got two onesies, but hope to get another for christmas in the form of Minnie Mouse or Eeyore (child). But for now, I make do with my fluffy owl onesie or my fitted star fleece onesie.

Every girl needs a onesie for those lazy winter days watching Christmas movies, wrapping pressies and generally eating all  your calendar chocolates in one great go.

12 Days of Christmas Day 3

It's freezing outside and I can't stand having cold feet, so most of the winter weeks, I spend in my UGGS. So day 3 fave is:

UGGS!

I have a few different pairs that I alternate with different outfits. my fave are the black originals! It's like wearing two big fluffy slippers outside. They are like Marmite, I think people rather love them or hate, but I'm definitely a lover.

Black mid length UGGS: I ordered mine from Australia so eneded up getting them for £70 in the end. Beats paying £150 over here.

Are you a lover or a hater of uggs?

I am in love with these festive earrings! The best thing about them is that they're not novelty either, so I will literally wear them all year long. How beaut are these???

Earrings: Adorning Ava £8.00

The red jewels at the bottom remind me of bows and the crystals in a circular pattern at the top remind me of reefs! festive fashion! I think I am going to be wearing these a lot over 2014 as well, not just over Christmas.

Dream Creams

I think we can safely say we Winter is here. Its nearly minus degrees outside and I am literally freezing all the time. Luckily I can wrap up in dozens of woollen layers, but what about my skin? My face, hands and lips become very dry and sore this time of year, which is never a great look, especially with the party season right round the corner. I don't know what it is, but as soon as we bye to the sun, I say bye to my lovely soft skin. Well this year, I have been extremely prepared and have invested in some key cosmetics to keep my skin glowing throughout December!

My Lips
There are some amazing products out there for your lips, some with a hefty price tag, but my remedy is pretty simple.
I use an exfoliater twice a week to get rid of any excess dry parts. I usually do it while chilling in the bath, so I can leave the scrub on for 5/10 minutes after too. The one I use is from Lush. It costs £5.50, but it literally lasts all year. Plus if you return your 5 pots, you get a free product. I buy the bubblegum flavour, as it's so sweet and I can't resist licking and eating some of it. I love Lush products as it's fresh, natural ingredients.

 Lip Scrub .... £5.50

                   Claudia Stevens Lip repair... £1.50

As well as using a lip scrub, I try and use a lip balm or moisture stick everyday. My favourite is the Nivea lip care pearly shine. Its £2.45 and really keeps my lips moist. It has a slight pink shine, so when applied it looks like a dusky pink lipstick! But sometimes, I want to wear a strong lippy for work, in which case, I make sure I use a lip cream over night to keep my lips moist like Claudia Stevens overnight lip repair. This is £5.99, but I get mine from Fragrance Direct for £1.50

My Face
When it comes to skin routines, we are bombarded with products. Cleansing, toning, moisturising, day cream night cream, ointments, gels, face masks, eye creams etc... but if we're honest No woman uses them all. But in Winter, our faces are forced to endure, bitter cold wind, freezing torrential down pours and icy chills. If your going to use one thing in winter, make sure it's a good product that keeps your skin moisturised, whether it an oil based ointment or a thick cream.

                               Simple... £2.50

I use simple moisturiser daily and then three times a week I use a moisture serum, which is literally fantastic. It's from The Body Shop at £11, but you only need the size of a pea amount, so it will last a long time. Obviously try and ex foliate once a week, to get rid of any dry flaky skin, but my advice... invest in a moisture full serum! it really works a treat. My skin has never been so soft. It also helps if you wear a foundation that contains minerals and works with the oils in your skin, not dry it out. I use Mac liquid fluid and I'll never go back.

My Hands
I think we tend to forget about our hands. We might moisturise our body and exfoliate, as we all know it helps with the fake tan, but our hands? We use them everyday for everything. They need a bit of TLC in Winter. Obviously if the weather is awful, I wear gloves to protect my hands (and because I'm freezing), but at work I don't and when I pop out or drive, I don't. The trick is to keep a little tub of cream with you in your bag. I use O'keeffes working hand cream at £5.99. I think it is supposed to be for people who work hard with their hands, not necessarily in an office, but its moisture rich and works a treat!

OK, so I hope that's given you a bit of extra beauty knowledge and try these products. They're really good!!!!

The perfect advent calender!

Another 2 weeks and we can get out our Christmas calendar's, whether it be pieces of moulded chocolate, candy and sweets or something more?
I've hunted high and low to bring you the every girls ultimate Christmas calendar and to be honest, they're all the same, nail varnish, lipstick, creams and cost an absolute fortune. Are you really going to spend £50+ on a calendar when you don't even know if you like the contents.
I thought to myself, what if you could make your own calendar? Then fill each compartment with something nice for yourself. It's also a great gift for someone or for children in your family. Here are my favourite that I have found!

I think it's much nicer if you can design and personalise your calendars. They can be part of the Christmas decorations. They are especially lovely if you have young children and it can be a family activity every evening. If the calendar is for yourself and you know what's gonna be in each little compartment, buy a few bits really early in advance or spread throughout the year or get someone else to put the little "surprises" in each compartment, so then you don't know which pressie is in which parcel.

i'm going to have a go at making my own this year, something rustic and traditional, watch out for the blog about it!

Miss Baker

As my devout followers will know, I occasionally do a little bit of baking here and there and blog about the results. This week, I've been busy making a 30th Birthday cake. The brief: beer, united football club, biking and Irish. So, here's the cake I came up with. It's quite simple, but I think it works!

The cake turned out quite well. I had a bit of a mare with bike, as the icing just wouldn't dry, so I had to change the layout slightly. But the client absolutly loved and I heard through the grape vine, the Birthday Boy was chuffed to bits with it too.
Great result!

Just dropped down in London town!

It's just been Halloween and this year, I decided to take a trip down to London to see my best friend that I used to go to uni with! I don't get to see her that often, so when I do, we make the most of it.
Me and my little Nommy back at University
This time, Naomi had so many plans for us, capturing every aspect of Halloween and bonfire night, wrapped into one glorious weekend. On the first night, we decorated her flat with pumpkin bunting, glow in the dark balloons, ghost tinsel, pumpkins and cakes.

Naomi had even made little "eye ball" cherries to put in our bloody drink (cranberry), as well as an amazing skull cake and glass cupcakes.

After decorating and munching, we began to look towards the night ahead. We were heading up to North London to a Halloween night at EGG! Despite the name, the club was really cool and played house music, with an edgy vibe to the place.
Needless to say we got in at 5am!

The next morning after croissants and tea in bed, while watching a few sneaky SATC episodes, we headed to central London for a quick look round Selfridges. The Christmas lights and trees were up, along with Christmassy feel visuals in the window. We had a quick wander around the perfume, spraying ourselves with different scents, before we stopped at Lola's for coffee and cake! Really cute with an American diner kind of feel! Not too expensive either!

We headed back to St Johns Wood, (where she lives) and quickly got ready for the evening we had ahead of us. We were all off to Ally pally for fireworks, fun and food.
It was amazing! Freezing, but amazing! We went ice skating, ate hog roasts, burgers and fries, drank hot chocolate with extra cream and mallows and snacked on churros with dippy chocolate.
The fireworks were literally the best I have ever seen. It might sound sad, but I got all dewy eyed at the finale. The music blared, baby you're a firework by Katy Perry, while thousands of people sung along, while there explosions of colour dancing across the nigh sky, while looking out onto the lights of London. It really was fantastic to be there.

definitely recommend you all go next year!

New Jewellery

One of my friends is off down under and I wanted to get her a little something to say goodbye! A little bird told me that she loves dangly pendant type necklaces so the hunt began. I looked everywhere, but most of the necklaces about are chunky chains and colourful collars. All beautiful, but not what I was after. After visiting every high street store available, I wondered into Forever21 and wish I had gone there first. They're jewellery section looked beautiful. There was a whole wall full od dangly, tassely long pendants. I resisted the urge to walk along stroking each necklace with my fingers.
I ended up buying two really simple, but beautiful pendant chain necklaces. I actually bough three, as I bought myself one too ;)! Couldn't resist!

Crystal Pendant: £6.65
Feather chain necklace: £3.40
I bought the crystal pendant for myself. I've wanted a crystal necklace for a while, but I've never found one that I liked enough to spend a lot of money on, as most places charge quite a bit of money for one. This is perfect, It's priced right and looks brilliant. The crystal is clear, so you can literally wear with anything! I can't wait to wear mine! Look out for a blog post soon on how I will wear it.

Baby you're a firework

Remember remember the 5th of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot
We season no reason
why the gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot!

That's right, it was bonfire night last night. I hope everyone had an amazing night, as well as being sensible! Did you see the roads this morning? They were smoky and foggy, left from last nights fireworks! The weather held off as well, which was nice, so we could all enjoy the fireworks from in the garden instead of pressed against the windows in the house.

My bonfire night was as usual, bonfire buffet, making a guy, fireworks, burning the guy and a few drinks while socialising with my family.

The bottom left picture is me playing with my sparkler. It didn't come out too well the photo, which is a shame, as my sparkler turned different colours... pink, green and then yellow (which I was very excited about).

The fireworks.... a little fuzzy, but thought I would post on anyway!

Potential Halloween Make up!

I love Halloween!! Okay, it sounds a bit creepy, but it really is one of my fav times of year... nothing beats Christmas, but it's up there! So I spend quite a lot of time trying to perfect my exact look for All Hallows Eve. This year, I have decided to go as a skeleton. I wanted to look different... not dead scary, but not slutty looking either! I wanted my whole look to portray my stylish, quirky side with a hint of creepiness and a slice of sexiness! This is the theatrical make up I have decided to go with... What dya think? I'm not 100% yet, but it's a strong competitor.

To Get this look: What did I use???
I used the shade "Oil Slick" in my Urban Decay palette for the larger areas that need coverage aka my eye and the slit up my face. To shade the slit up my face, I shaded the dark black with the colour "Polyester Bride" from the Urban Decay palette. It just gives it a bit of depth. The darker fine lines, I used a black liquid eyeliner from Rimmel. It worked a treat. Your actual makeup, you want to keep it quite pale, with definition on your cheek bones. I used a bronzer to really "cut" into them, so they look really hollowed. I also used a really thick eye brow pencil to give a dark, sharp shape.

How to draw the design???
It's really easy to re create this. It's all about being rough and bold... don't worry about messing it up. Basically you want to cover one eye in the eye shadow. It might help if you wet your brush, so the shadow doesn't flake every where. Do the same with the slit. Then use the white colour and shade into the slit. Be really rough and use it as if your shading the colours on your eye lid. The liquid eye liner is quite smudgy, but it doesn't matter if the lines you draw aren't straight, it'll look better if they're not. It's about making an impression not perfection...
Enjoy trying and experimenting with this!!!

Snap Snap!

Hi, this is just a quick blog. My sister was heading to the pub, and I just LOVED the little outfit combo she wore. Simple, but stylish. I thought the mustard drape top look extra cool with her chestnut ombred hair. So I quickly grabbed my cam and took a few quick piccies... even though she was running late (sorry heath).

Top: TOPSHOP £22
Jeggings: TOPSHOP £28
Cut out Boots: TOPSHOP £45
Bag: Vintage Mulberry £100
I think this is a great example of how to wear on trend pieces, without going over board with loads of jewellery, makeup and accessories.

Outfit of the day

Last Saturday was a perfect Saturday.

Lie in, Bacon Butty, followed by meeting my school besties for coffee and a catch up!  I don't get to see them as much as I would like to, as they're all high flying wonder women. It was really great to seem them all and just be me plus it was the perfect excuse to wear my new blazer and bowler hat.

Here's my little ensemble I ended up wearing!

Dress: Miss Selfridge £28
Boots: Shoetique £25
Jacket: Primark £23
Hat: H&M £7.99
Necklace: Topshop £12.50
Rings: H&M £3.99 for 4
Black Midi: Forever21 £1.69

The owl dress is actually AW12, but I love it so much. It looks great with just a pair of legging and flats for the day or killer high boots for the evening. Plus it's covered in owls...a bonus as I'm slightly obsessed.

I wore my fav Dior lippy to tie in with the dark mulberry shade of my necklace. I can't help myself. I have to match at least one thing! :)

For the Love of Minions

It's been my younger sisters birthday recently and as a surprise me and my other sister decided to make her a birthday cake. We thought about it for ages and then my sister thought of the perfect idea! A Despicable me cake! She may be turning 20, but my sister is obsessed with the little minions.

                 SEE.......

As you know from previous blogs (my serial followers) I can bake and decorate quite well, so I thought why not, let's give it a go!
It only took a couple of hours to make, but me and my sister spent about an hour of that laughing at how cute the minions looked.

                     Here was the finished piece!

And we were right, Kim absolutely loved it.....
In fact, she kept all the little minions off the cake.
